DALTON, Ga. - Daniel Okonkwo was the in the right place at the right time on Thursday evening as he scored the golden goal in overtime of the #23-ranked Roadrunners 2-1 victory over NCAA Division II Shorter (Ga.).

The Roadrunners got on the board first when Ramiro Guerrero found the back of the net in the 28th minute on an assist from Daniel Valenciano. The defense would hold strong and carry the Birds to a 1-0 halftime lead. Dalton State missed several opportunities to extend the lead in the second half, but held strong.

Shorter's Justen Macias would get loose on the right wing in the 87th minute and tie the game at 1-1. The Roadrunners came out pressing in the second half. Four minutes into the extra period, Shorter goalkeeper Sean Carpenter would mishandle a shot that deflected off right into the path of a sprinting Daniel Okonkwo for the golden goal.

#23 Dalton State improves to 2-1 overall on the season, while Shorter (Ga.) drops to 0-4. The Roadrunners will be back at home on Sunday, September 10 when they face Oakwook (Ala.) at 3:00 p.m. at Lakeshore Park.
