Strong Second Half Propels Roadrunners To Victory Over North Greenville


DALTON, Ga. - The Dalton State Men's Soccer team used a strong second half surge to defeat North Greenville University 4-0 Saturday at Lakeshore Park.

FIRST HALF
Both teams came out trying to attack early, but both defenses held strong. Possessions were traded until the 19th minute when Santiago Moore had a scoring opportunity go wide of the left cross bar. Both teams would continue to play stellar defense and went into the half tied at 0-0.

SECOND HALF
Fireworks would erupt in the second half and it didn't take long for the Roadrunners to light up the scoreboard. In the 53rd minute, Daniel Valenciano sent a beautiful ball into the box from mid-field that Santiago Moore head passed to Jordan Man for the first goal of the day. Man almost struck again in the 57th minute, but came in contact with North Greenville goalie James Max Miller and tumbled head-over-feet. Man and Miller would be shaken up, but both would be ok.

In the 72nd minute, junior Sebastian Guzman would find the back of the net on an assist from Ramiro Guerrero to put the Roadrunners up by two. The next score would come in the 76th minute from freshman Kevin Villatoro. The final goal would come in the 87th minute on the leg of Jorge Hurtado as he found nylon on an pass down the wing from Simeon Robinson to put the Birds up 4-0 and finish off the Crusaders.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to 1-0 overall with the season opening victory. Freshman Kevin Villatoro scores his first career collegiate goal, while three other Roadrunners find the back of the net. The Roadrunner defense was stout on the afternoon allowing just one shot from North Greenville. Dalton State out shot the Crusaders 13-1 on the day.

Dalton State will be back in action on September 2 when they travel to Thomasville, Ga. to face St. Thomas University (Fla.) at 2:30 p.m.
