Roadrunners And Crusaders Will Battle For Title

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The #3 Dalton State Roadrunners and the #17 William Carey Crusaders will battle for a third time this season when they face off in the SSAC Tournament Championship game today at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex in Montgomery, AL.  Tip-Off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (CST).

DALTON STATE
The Roadrunners started out hot yesterday in a 69-67 win over #25 Martin Methodist.  Reed Dungan led the way with 24 points, going 7-10 from three.  Carnilious Simmons has lived up to his billing as a 1st Team All-Conference selection with his second double-double of the tournament.  Dalton State made the final five minutes interesting as they almost squandered a 16 point lead, but held on for the victory.  The Roadrunners will have to finish the drill today if they want to beat a very athletic William Carey (Miss.) squad.  The key to today's game will be rebounding.  If the Roadrunners attack the glass and get William Carey forward Terrance Mujahid in foul trouble, they can win.  Perimeter defense will also be big as William Carey features one of the best backcourts in the SSAC, led by Leo Garrett.  Garrett averages 16.2 points per game.  Containing the Crusader guards is pivotal to a Roadrunner victory today.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
WILLIAM CAREY

The Crusaders have a fast, athletic team that likes to get out and run if the opportunity presents.  Last month in Dalton, William Carey went on a 14-0 run in a 2 minute stretch that saw them take control of a game that Dalton State had in hand with 8 minutes to go.  The Roadrunners will have to finish at the basket to limit the transition offense of the Crusaders.  Slowing down Jaylen Moore, Leo Garrett, Troy Salvant, and Ashton Woodson will be no easy task but it can be done.  Getting Terrance Mujahid in foul trouble will allow the Roadrunners to focus more on the perimeter and containing the William Carey guard play.  It will be a slobber-knocker for 40 minutes today in Montgomery for the SSAC Championship.
