PULAKSI, TN. – The Roadrunners suffered their second loss of the season against Martin Methodist (Tenn.) 84-58 on Thursday night at the Ronald M. Curry Christian Life Center.
THE FIRST HALF
The Roadrunners began the game strong with an early 8-2 lead with a shot from three by Isaiah Box with 17:11 left. The RedHawks offense would go on to shrink the gap to a single point at 14-13 with a field goal in the paint by Caleb Chowbay with 13:18 left. Dalton State would regain their lead shortly after, but were unable to hold onto their advantage as the RedHawks would tie the game at 19-19 with 10:47 left. Each team continued to press the other, but a 10-0 run by the RedHawks in the last three minutes of the half would give Martin Methodist the lead at 43-33 going into the break.
THE SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners would go on to struggle in the second half, and Martin Methodist would keep its 10-point lead at 52-42 with 16:33 left. The RedHawks would continue to ride their momentum with a 12-0 run that was capped by a field goal from Toderick Davis with 12:03 left. The Roadrunners fought hard, but were unable to make enough defensive stops against the RedHawks and would continue to trail for the rest of the game. Martin Methodist would go on to win 84-58.
THE REST OF THE STORY.
Dalton State falls to 20-2 overall, 12-2 in the SSACÂ with the loss. This game marked the first big point loss for the Roadrunners, and their first loss on the road. The Roadrunners were led by the strong performances of Reed Dugan as top scorer with 14 points. Carnilious Simmons followed with 8 rebounds, and Isaiah Box secured 3 steals.
Martin Methodist improves to 17-8 overall, 11-4 in the SSACÂ with the win. The RedHawks improve their win streak to 3 games, and were led by top scorer Albert Lynch with 21 points. Broderick Davis followed close behind with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Caleb Chowbay and Toderick Davis contributed 12 and 10 points respectfully.
The Roadrunners season continues on the road as the team travels to McKenzie, TNÂ to face-off against Bethel (Tenn.) on February 11Â at 4:00 p.m. (CST).
