Roadrunners Secure Confident Win On the Road

MT. VERNON, Ga. – The #5-ranked Roadrunners got their last regular season road trip off to a good start as they defeated Brewton-Parker (Ga.) 92-77 at Gillis Gymnasium on Thursday night.

A LOOK BACK
Dalton State won their last meeting against the Barons in their biggest blowout of the season with a 95-56 victory. The Roadrunners were on fire, and held a 40-point lead at one point in the game. The Barons fought hard, but trailed throughout the game and were only able to shrink the Dalton State lead to 20 points during the first half. Carnilious Simmons led Dalton State with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sayvon Wilson and Reed Dungan each scored 17 and 16 points respectively. The Barons were led by McKel Miller with 18 points.

THE REMATCH
The Roadrunners did not recreate their dominant win, but still secured the match confidently with a 92-77 win. Dalton State grew their lead early with a 13-point gap at 41-28 at the end of the first half. The Barons would find their stride in the second half and match the Roadrunners toe-for-toe, but were unable to surpass the difference made from the first half. The Roadrunners improve to 7-0 all-time against the Barons with the win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State improves to 23-4 overall, 15-4 in the SSAC for the season with the win. The Roadrunners were led in the rematch by the continued strong play of Carnilious Simmons with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Dalton State had four other players in double-figures. Isaih Box scored 18 points with a bombardment of threes, and Reed Dugan followed close behind with consistent shooting from the field and 15 points. Sayvon Wilson and Mon'Darius Black gave the Roadrunners added momentum in the paint with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Brewton-Parker falls to 8-17 overall, 4-15 in the SSAC for the season with the loss. The loss marks the 5th straight for the team. The Barons were led by the strong performance of Jakari Bush with 16 points. Marcus Ford and Myles White kept the game competitive with 12 and 11 points receptively.

The Roadrunner season continues on the road with the last game of the regular season as Dalton State travels to face-off against Costal Georgia on Saturday, February 25, at 4:00 p.m.
