Simmons Records Double-Double As #13 Dalton State Rolls To Victory


DALTON, Ga. - #13-ranked Dalton State dominated from start to finish in a 78-59 win over Cumberland University (Tenn.) at Mashburn Arena in Dalton, Ga. on Friday night.

THE FIRST HALF
The Roadrunners would win this half convincingly by playing well in both fazes on offense and defense. The Roadrunners would play great outstanding defense, holding Cumberland Phoenix under 10 points for the first 15 minutes of the half, jumping out to a 34-9 lead. Dalton State would let of the gas a bit on defense, but their offensive efficiency would carry them into the half with a commanding lead, 48-24. Seniors Reed Dungan and Carnilious Simmons would be the cornerstone of the 1st half offense, with both shooting better than 50% from the field.

THE SECOND HALF
To start the second period, Cumberland would fight back to trim the 24 point lead to 15, but the Roadrunners would keep their foot on the gas pushing the lead back to 25 with four minutes left in the contest.

The Roadrunners would again tighten up and play lock down defense. A moment of frustration was shown late by the Phoenix, picking up a technical foul.
With the game in hand, the Roadrunners would coast to victory with the final score of 78-59.   

THE REST OF THE STORY
The #13-ranked Roadrunners improve to (9-3 overall, 3-1 SSAC) with the win, while Cumberland falls to (6-6 overall) with the loss. Senior Carnilious Simmons led all scorers with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds, while adding 2 blocks. Seniors' Reed Dungan and Mon'Darious Black followed up combining for 30 points.

Diondrey Holt Jr. led the Phoenix with 12 points, 1 steal and 1 block. Teammates Reid Pierce and Juandrico Walker combined for 20 points. 

UP NEXT
The #13-ranked Roadrunners will play Life (Ga.) at home on Saturday, December 30. Tip-Off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Mashburn Arena.
