#6 Roadrunners Fall To Coastal Georgia By 2


DALTON, Ga. - Former SSAC member Coastal Georgia pulled the upset, defeating Dalton State 72-70 for the first time in program history at Mashburn Arena on Saturday afternoon.

THE FIRST HALF
The #6 Roadrunners jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and maintained the lead till the midway point in the first half. The Mariners would take the lead for the first time, 14-13, with 11 minutes to go in the period. The game would go back and forth with four ties and the lead switching hands nine times. Dalton State would close the half on a 10-2 run to go into the break with the lead, 33-27.

THE SECOND HALF
Dalton State would come out in the second half and quickly grow the lead to 10 at 39-29 with 19 minutes left. Coastal Georgia would begin to chip away, cutting the lead to three at 42-39 with 15:29 remaining. The Roadrunners would maintain the lead through the midway point in the half, but Coastal would tie it at 52-52 with 8:43 remaining after a 5-0 run.

Dalton State would retake the lead and go up six with 6:37 to go, but a 10-0 Mariner run gave Coastal the lead at 63-59 with 3:48 left on the clock. The Roadrunners would battle tough down the stretch and tie the game at 67-67 with 1:37 remaining, but Vidmantas Kaciuska would drive the lane and and battle tough for two to give Coastal the lead. Dalton State would have a chance after a Haylen Washington missed free throw, but the Roadrunner could not convert on the other end as Coastal Georgia shocked Dalton State at home, 72-70.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#6 Dalton State falls to 1-1 overall on the young season, while Coastal Georgia improves to 2-1. The Roadrunners were led by Isaiah Box with 28 points and Reed Dungan with 15 points. Sean Chislom added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Donovan Brown (23), Vidmantas Kaciuska (13), and Haylen Washington (10) all scored in double-figures for the Mariners. Brown and Washington added 12 and 11 rebounds respectively.

Coastal Georgia out rebounded Dalton State 41-35 and shot a better percentage from the field, 44.8%-36.8%.

Dalton State will turn around quick as they have a date with Voorhees College (S.C) on Wednesday, November 8, at Mashburn Arena. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
