#15 Roadrunners Drop 1-0 Decision To #8 Rams


MOBILE, Ala. - #15-ranked Dalton State dropped their second match in a row to a ranked opponent, losing to #8 Mobile (Ala.) 1-0 on Friday night at The Jungle in Mobile, Ala.

THE FIRST HALF
The #15 Roadrunners would come out on the attack early. Two minutes in, Daniel Valenciano missed an opportunity when his shot went wide. He would get another opportunity in the 13', but his shot would be blocked by Nathaniel Bedai. Mobile's Sam White would have a good look in the 19', but would be stoned by Roadrunner netminder Samuel Fraire. Fraire would get two more saves on White in the first half to preserve the scoreless match at the half.

THE SECOND HALF
Both teams would trade possessions to begin the second half and each time they would come up empty. In the 61' Mobile would strike as Newton Henry found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners would continue to battle tough. A scoring chance from Jorge Hurtado came up just short in the 71' when Ram goalkeeper Guilherme Altoe stopped the shot short of the goal. With time running out, senior Juan Zapata took one last ditch effort to tie the game, but his shot would travel just wide as Mobile would hang on for the 1-0 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#15 Dalton State drops to (7-3 overall, 0-2 SSAC) with the loss, while #8 Mobile improves to (7-2-1 overall, 2-0 SSAC). The Birds would be out shot 5-4 in the first half, but held an overwhelming advantage in the second half, 13-6. Freshman goalkeeper Samuel Fraire continues to impress, holding the Mobile attack to just one goal while also recording four saves. Daniel Valenciano would lead all Roadrunners in shots with six. Santiago Moore and Jorge Hurtado were tied for second on the night with three a piece.

UP NEXT
The #15-ranked Roadrunners will be back at home on Thursday, October 12, when they match up with (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) at Lakeshore Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
