Hurtado's Two Goal Night Lifts #19 Roadrunners To Victory


COCHRAN, Ga. - Dalton State junior Jorge Hurtado had a huge night, scoring two goals as #19 Dalton State defeated Middle Georgia 2-1 in SSAC action on Wednesday night in Cochran, Ga.

THE FIRST HALF
Middle Georgia came out on the attack early, looking to put Dalton State in an early hole. In the first 10 minutes, the Knights would out shoot Dalton State 4-0. The Roadrunners would swing the momentum in their favor quickly after, but could not convert. The turning point in the contest came in the 25' when senior Juan Zapata was called for a yellow card in the box. That setup a penalty kick from Mauricio Rodriguez. Rodriguez would convert, putting the ball in the upper right corner for the 1-0 lead.

The lights would come on for the Roadrunners after the goal. Two minutes later, in the 27', Jorge Hurtado would sneak it past Knight goalkeeper Benjamin Pelz to tie the score at 1-1. Dalton State would press to add to the lead before the half, but shots from Hurtado, Daniel Okonkwo, and Jose Villalobos would miss the target as the Roadrunners would go into halftime tied at 1-1.

THE SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners would press hard to start the second half. They would capitalize in the 55' when Jorge Hurtado found the back of the net on an assist from Santiago Moore for a 2-1 Roadrunner lead.

Dalton State goalkeeper Samuel Fraire would come up with two huge saves down the stretch as #19 Dalton State held on for the 2-1 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
#19 Dalton State improves to (10-3-1 overall, 3-2 SSAC) with the win, while Middle Georgia falls to (1-12-1 overall, 0-5 SSAC) with the loss. Jorge Hurtado was the man of the night for the Roadrunners, coming through with two huge goals. Samuel Fraire continues to play well in net, recording four saves.

Taeylor Fisch nothced his second assist in the last three games, while Santiago Moore added to his tally for the year with his 13th assist on Hurtado's second goal.

QUOTES FROM COACH
"I felt like they were the better team in the first half," said coach K. "I give big credit to coach Elvar as he had his team ready to play, but we need to be ready to play hard for 90 minutes. Every SSAC match is a battle." He concluded by saying, "I am proud of our team for coming from behind to pull of this win. We look forward to playing Brewton-Parker on Saturday."

UP NEXT
#19 Dalton State will be back in action on Senior Night, Saturday, October 21, when they host Brewton-Parker. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m at Lakeshore Park Soccer Complex.
