Roadrunners Make a Statement in Rematch

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The #6 Roadrunners traveled to Montgomery for a rematch against #22 Faulkner University (Ala.) on Saturday and avenged their only loss of the season with a decisive 83-67 win.

THE FIRST HALF
The #6-ranked Roadrunners started strong against the Eagles as each side was unable find an advantage and the game stayed tied at 10-10 with 12:39 left. Faulkner would shortly gain the first swing of momentum as they went on a 7-0 run that was capped by a rebound and good field goal by Jose Jimenez that put the Eagles up 117-10 with 8:54 left. Dalton State would respond by shrinking the gap to 2 points at 19-17 on a three by J'Quayveon Williams with 6:55 left. The Eagles would regain their stride and keep their lead until a blitzing 16-1 run would flip the scoreboard in the Roadrunners favor, with a 9-point lead at 39-30 going into the break.

THE SECOND HALF
Dalton State came into the second half wasting no time and grew their lead to 15 points with a 10-4 run with 15:53 left. The Eagles would find their stride to respond as they closed the gap to 6 points at 52-46 with a three by Logan Jozwiak with 13:36 left. Faulkner would continue to press the Roadrunners as the gap closed further to 3 points at 56-53 with 11:09 left, but a surging 14-2 run by Dalton State would end the Eagles momentum at and grow the lead to 15 points at 70-55 with 7:47 left. Faulkner would be unable to mount another comeback as the Roadrunners would continue their win streak on the road with an 83-67 victory.

THE REST OF THE STORY
The Roadrunners improve to 18-1 overall, 10-1 in the SSAC, with the win. Dalton State keeps its win streak alive at 13 straight games, and answers their previous loss against the Eagles with a big win. Four Roadrunners scored in double-figures with Carnilious Simmons leading the team with 16 points. Reed Dungan followed with 14 points, Sayvon Wilson with 15 points, and Isiah Box with 12 points.

The #22-ranked Eagles drop to 13-8 overall, 8-4 in the SSAC, with the loss. Dalton State's win marks the third straight game the Eagles have dropped at home. Faulkner was led by the strong showings of Logan Jozwiak with 17 points and Marquis Grays with 15 points.

The Roadrunners season continues at home with a special return to Bandy Gymnasium on campus to face Loyola University (La.) on Thursday, February 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. (EST)
