Roadrunners Get Win Number 13

COCHRAN, Ga. – The Roadrunners travelled to Cochran, Ga., and improved their record to 13-1 overall, 5-1 in the SSAC, by defeating Middle Georgia State University 82-65 on Thursday night.
 
THE FIRST HALF
The Roadrunners wasted no time in the first half against the Knights. The teams were close at 15-13 with Dalton State leading by 2 points at 15:07, but the Roadrunners would soon hit a stride to grow the lead to 7 points on a three by Reed Dungan with 12:28 left. The Knights would continue to press the Roadrunners, but were unable to lessen the difference. The Roadrunners would hold a 14-point lead at 44-30 over the Knights at the end of the half.
 
THE SECOND HALF
Middle Georgia State made adjustments leading into the second half, and the Knights would go on a 11-4 run to close the gap to 7 points at 48-41 with 15:35 left. However, the Roadrunners did not allow the Knights momentum to hold, and would stop any hope of a comeback happening by going on a 14-3 run that would put Dalton State at a comfortable 20-point lead with 5:58 left. Dalton State would continue to coast and win the game 82-65.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
The victory marks the 5th conference win for the Roadrunners, and improves the team's current win streak to 8 games. The Roadrunners had three players score in double-figures with Carnilious Simmons leading the team with 22 points. Reed Dungan followed with 16 points and went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Sayvon Wilson was the last Roadrunner in double-digits with 15 points.
 
With the loss, Middle Georgia State University falls to 6-6 overall for the season and 1-5 in the SSAC. The Knights were led by the strong performance of Kieston Standfield with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Roshaun Miline and Cory Reid contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.
 
The Roadrunners continue their road trip against #18 William Carey University (Miss.) this Saturday, January 14, at 4:00 p.m. (CST).
