Montgomery, Al. - Faulkner University (1-8 overall, 1-0 SSAC) used a strong serve and a good defense to defeat Dalton State Thursday night, 3-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference opener for each team.

The hosts held on to win the first set, 25-22.  The Roadarunners came back to take the second game, 25-19. The third set was all Eagles, 25-9. And Faulkner closed out the match with a 25-14 win the final game.

Dalton State (1-4 overall, 0-1 SSAC) plays again Friday night at Brenau University in Gainesville.
