Roadrunners Keep the Streak Alive on Road

MOBILE, Ala. – The Roadrunners continued to travel on the road and improved their record to 10-1 overall, 2-1 in the SSAC, and defeatd the University of Mobile (Ala.) 83-59 on Saturday at H. Austill Pharr Gymnasium.

THE FIRST HALF
Mobile opened with an early 6-point lead against Dalton State at 15-9 with 14:46 left. The Roadrunners remained competitive, but were unable to close the gap until an 11-0 run broke the even score to give Dalton State a 9-point lead at 32-23 with 6:17 left. The Rams kept the fight alive throughout the half, but the Roadrunners kept the lead to go into the break up 41-36.

THE SECOND HALF
Dalton State surged into the second half with accurate shots made from the field to widen their lead to 12 points at 54-42 with 16:45 left. The Rams were unable to make a comeback to lessen the lead, and a good 3-point shot by Mon'Darius Black would go on to grow the gap to 19 points at 67-48 with 12:53 left. The Roadrunners would comfortably maintain their lead to end the game for an 83-59 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
This game marks the third conference game of the season, and put the Roadrunners at a favorable 2-1 record in the SSAC before the new year. The Roadrunners were led again by Isaiah Box with 26 points. Box continues an impressive season, scoring in double-digits for the twelfth consecutive game, and his third game this season with more than 20 points in a game. Sayvon Wilson was the second Roadrunner in double digits with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Mon'Darius Black and Carnilious Simmons followed with 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Rams were led by the strong performances of D.J. Hill and Ryan Papelbon with 12 points each. Mobile drops to 6-6 for the season overall, and 2-2 in the SSAC.

The Roadrunners forced 12 turnovers during the game and converted that into 24 points. This win gives the Roadrunners the lead in the all-time series against Mobile with a 2-1 record.

The Roadrunners will return after the new year for a home game at Mashburn Arena against Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) on Thursday, January 5th.
