Roadrunners Score Huge Win On The Road

DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State visited New Orleans and confidently improved their record to 9-1 overall, 1-1 in the SSAC, and defeated Loyola University (La.) (9-3, 2-1 SSAC) 100-68 on Thursday night at First NBC Court.

THE FIRST HALF
Both teams came into the game with competitive strides, and the Wolf Pack managed to hold the Roadrunners to a single point lead at 12-11 with 12:30 left. However, a good field goal by Isaiah Box would start a blitzing 12-2 run for Dalton State that would grow their lead to 24-13 with 10:07 left. The Roadrunners would continue to maintain their momentum and go into the half with a 45-29 lead.

THE SECOND HALF
The Roadrunners came out of the break without missing a beat, and continued to press a Wolf Pack team that never managed to regain their stride. Dalton State comfortably maintained a double-digit lead throughout the half, and late in the half the Roadrunners continued to impress with an unanswered 10-0 run to increase their lead to 32 points at 93-61 with 2:18 left. Deshawn Ruffin would be the last Roadrunner to score in the half with 0:46 left to as Dalton State eclipsed 100 points for the first time this season. The Roadrunners would end the night with a 100-68 road victory.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Isaiah Box led the Roadrunners with a tremendous night scoring 17 points, and 5 assists to go along with 6 steals. Carnilious Simmons also had a big night, scoring 17 points and contributing 12 rebounds. Reed Dungan proved to have an eagle's eye throughout the night going 5-6 on field goals, 2-2 from three, and 4-4 from the free throw line to score 16 points. Mike Harden and Mon'Darius Black each scored 12 points.  In all, the Roadrunners had five players score in double-figures for the night.

The Wolf Pack was led by the strong performance of Nick Parker with 21 points and a staggering 9-12 from the free throw line. Johnny Griffin Jr. followed with an admirable showing of 16 points and 8 rebounds. Jalen Gray was the third Wolf Pack player in the double digits with 10 points.
 
With the win, Dalton State improves their all-time record against Loyola to 3-0 and end the Wolf Pack's seven game winning streak. The Roadrunners also shatter the Wolf Pack's previous record of holding opponents to 66.3 points per game for the season with an outstanding performance of 100 points scored. Dalton State is set to face Loyola again when they come to visit on February 2.

Dalton State will continue on the road to face Mobile (Ala.) on New Year's Eve, Saturday at 4:00 p.m. (CST).
