Roadrunners Hit The Hardwood Tonight In The Big Easy

DALTON, Ga. - Dalton State, 8-1 overall, 0-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, will be back in action tonight in New Orleans, LA for a key SSAC match-up with #22 Loyola-New Orleans (9-2, 2-0) at First NBC Court.

Dalton State
The Roadrunners are on a three game winning streak and riding high with confidence after a big come-from-behind victory over Life (Ga.) on December 20.  Leading scorer Isaiah Box (15.8 ppg) has given Dalton State a big boost from the guard position.  Box along with Reed Dungan and Mon'Darius Black have become significant threats from 3-point range, combining for 46 of the Roadrunners 55 three's on the year.  With the recent stellar play of Mike Harden, the guard heavy Roadrunners are finding a balance in the back court that could be the backbone of the team in early March.

Carnilious Simmons continues to be a monster on the boards, averaging 8.9 per game to go along with 12.8 ppg, while Sayvon Wilson is averaging 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds.  The front court is being solidified with the play of J'Quayveon Williams.  Williams is averaging 14 points and 5.7 rebounds during the winning streak, giving Dalton State a strong three man rotation.

TALE OF THE TAPE
The Roadrunners are 2-0 all-time against Loyola with every meeting coming in New Orleans, but tonight's game may their toughest match-up with the Wolf Pack to date.  Dalton State will get a return visit from Loyola on February 2.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Loyola (La.)

The Wolf Pack have achieved their highest ranking in program history, number 22, and looking to go higher.  They sit at 2-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference with wins over Brewton-Parker and Coastal Georgia.  They also boast a strong 19 point, non-conference win against city rival Xavier (La.).  They are led by guards Nick Parker (15 ppg) and Jalen Gray (11.1 ppg).  Forward Johnny Griffin Jr. averages a double-double with 14.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Strong team play is the name of the game for Loyola.  The Wolf Pack rank 11th in the country in scoring defense, holding opponents to 66.3 points per game.  They also rank in the top 25 in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and blocks per game.
