Roadrunners Erase Big Second Half Deficit To Defeat Life

DALTON, Ga. - Dalton State used a big second half surge to improve to 8-1 overall, 0-1 in the SSAC, and defeat (RV)Life (Ga.) 78-77, Tuesday night at Mashburn Arena.

THE FIRST HALF
Both teams came out of the gates hot trading blows back-and-forth.  The early lead would go to Life as they built a 7 point advantage at 17-10.  They Roadrunners would battle back delivering the next blow with a 14-3 run, capped by a Reed Dungan three to take the lead 22-20 with 9:36 to go in the half.  Life would continue to run, and lead by as many as 8 at 41-33 with 2:34 left.  Dalton State would not back down, cutting the lead Life lead to 3 at 43-40 going into the half.

THE SECOND HALF
Life came out of the half on fire, going on a 16-2 run to extend the lead to 17 at 59-42 with 15:59 left in the game.  The Roadrunners would show their resiliency as they steadily chipped away at the lead.  At the 9:28 mark, the lead was cut to 5 and it looked as if Dalton State was primed to take the momentum away, but Life would extend the lead back to 10 with 3:56 to play behind the strong play of Delarian Williams.  The Running Eagle momentum would end there as Mike Harden, Carnilious Simmons, and Sayvon Wilson took the game over, helping the Roadrunners close the game on an 11-0 run over the final 3:45 to give Dalton State a hard-fought non-conference win.

THE REST OF THE STORY
The Roadrunners were led by Mike Harden with 16 points.  Harden had two big buckets 19 seconds a part that brought Dalton State within 1 at 77-76, and gave them the lead for good.  Carnilious Simmons had a huge night netting a double-double with 14 points, and 12 rebounds to go along with 4 assist and 3 steals.  Isaiah Box continued his stellar play as of late with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assist.  Reed Dungan added 11 points, going 2-4 from three.  J'Quayveon Williams had 9 points and 6 boards. 

Life was a two-headed monster, led by the outstanding play of Delarian Williams with 34 points and 10 rebounds, and Chris Rhoney, who went 5-10 from behind the arc and added 23 for the Running Eagles.  No other Life player scored in double-figures.  Life drops to 7-7 overall, 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference.

With the win, Dalton State improves to 4-1 all-time against Life University, winning four straight after losing their first ever meeting.
