Strong Second Half Surges Roadrunners To Victory

DALTON, Ga. - Dalton State started sluggish, but used a strong second half surge to defeat Webber International (Fla.) 88-78, in the second game of the Roadrunner Thanksgiving Classic Friday night at Mashburn Arena. 

THE FIRST HALF

The visiting Warriors would maintain a steady lead throughout the first half, growing it to 8 with 6:35 left.  The Roadrunners would soon hit their stride, going on an 11-2 run to take the lead 40-39 with 3:12 left.  Sayvon Wilson would dominate the rest of the half, scoring the final 8 points to send Dalton State into the break up 48-43.

THE SECOND HALF

Dalton State came out of halftime and quickly extend the lead to 9 with 16:04 left.  Webber cut the lead back to 5, but the Roadrunners would hold the Warriors scoreless for the next 5 minutes and go on a 12-0 run to take a commanding lead.  Dalton State grew the lead to 22 with 2:40 left and held on for the 88-78 win.

THE REST OF THE STORY

Dalton State improves to 3-0 on the young season, while Webber International drops to 2-6, 0-1 in the Sun Conference. The Roadrunners had four players score in double-figures, led by Sayvon Wilson with 29 points.  Wilson added 6 rebounds and 5 steals to the stat line.  Isaiah Box was the second leading scorer for the Roadrunners with 16 points to go along with 3 assist.  Carnilious Simmons had a solid night in the paint with 13 points and 8 rebounds.  Mike Harden was the fourth Roadrunner in double digits with 10.

Webber International was paced by the strong play of McDonald Jean-Louis.  Jean-Louis led Webber with 21 points.  Daniel Coffey added 20 points for the Warriors.  The next highest scorer for Webber International was Johnathon Childs with 9.

Dalton State scored 27 points off 21 Webber turnovers, and outscored the Warriors in the paint 44-24.

ON THE HORIZON

Both teams will be in action again tomorrow, November 26 as the Roadrunner Thanksgiving Classic comes to a close with Webber International (Fla.) facing off against Wilberforce (Ohio) at 2:00 p.m.  The Roadrunners will match-up against Johnson & Wales (Fla.) at 4:00 p.m.
