Volleyball End Home Season With A Win

DALTON, Ga. - The Dalton State volleyball team ended their home season on a high note Sunday in Bandy Gym defeating Loyola-New Orleans 3-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference action.

The Lady Roadrunners got off to a great start taking set one 25-21 thanks to great team defense. The second set was a struggle between both teams for momentum. Dalton State had gained the edge late, up 22-20, but Loyola would fight back and take the set SCORE to even the match at 1-1.

The third set would be tight. With the score tied at 24-24, Anna Metzler would rip off two straight kills to give DS the set 26-24. The fourth set would belong to the Roadrunners as they would cruise to a 25-12 victory.

The Lady Birds were led on offense with another double-double by Anna Metzler with 20 kills and 12 digs. Grace Hardin added 12 kills and 6 aces. Clarissa Weber (21) and Brooke Thomas (16) combined for 37 assist. The defense was solid with Ryan Burke smashing 7 block back at Loyola. Karly Newman had 19 digs to surpass 1000 for her career.

The Roadrunners will play again on October 27 when they travel to McKenzie, TN to match-up with Bethel University.
