Roadrunners Give Mobile All They Can Handle

Box Score
DALTON, Ga. - The Dalton State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Mobile on Saturday in Bandy Gym, but the Roadrunners gave the Rams all they could handle.  Dalton State falls to 7-14, 6-8 in the Southern States Athletic Conference, while Mobile improves to 22-6, 14-1 in the SSAC.

Set one saw a back and forth battle between both teams and it looked like Mobile was going to finish the set off after going up 23-21, but the Lady Roadrunners dug deep and put together a 3-0 run to take the lead at 24-23.  Mobile would dig deeper though, and scored the final three points of the set to win 26-24.

Set two was much of the same struggle to gain momentum, but Dalton State would find it and jump out to a 16-8 lead forcing a Mobile timeout.  The Rams would come out of the timeout with determination and go on an 11-2 run to take the lead, 19-18.  The Lady Birds would once again dig deep and rip off three straight points to retake the lead 21-19.  The two teams would trade points until Mobile siezed the momentum for good with two points to take the set 27-25.

Mobile came out hot in the third set, jumping out to an 11-2 lead before the Roadrunners could right the ship.  The Lady Roadrunners would try to battle back but the Rams would prove to be too much and cruised to a 25-13 win giving them the match.

The Roadrunners were out-hit by the Rams .191-.055 and committed 25 attack errors to Mobile's 19.

Ryan Burke led the Lady Roadrunners in kills with 7, while Anna Metzler and Olivia Keegan added 6 kills each.  Clarissa Weber had 15 assist and 10 digs for a double-double.  Metzler, 14 digs, and Karly Newman, 9 digs, were defensive strongholds for the Roadrunners.  With 10 digs against Loyola-New Orleans, Newman can surpass 1000 career digs.

The Lady Roadrunners will be back in action tomorrow, October 23 when they close out their home season against Loyola-New Orleans at 12:00 p.m. in Bandy Gym.
