Box Score DS Basketball Takes Coastal GeorgiaÂ
Brunswick, GA - Following a close first half, the Dalton State basketball Roadrunners upped their record to 19-3 overall and 10-2 in the Southern States Athletic Conference Saturday night with a 91-78 victory over Coastal Georgia.
With
Ladaris Green sitting the bench with four fouls during much of the contest, the Roadrunners got plenty of scoring productivity elsewhere. Green only played a little over 22 minutes. He was held to just seven points, but still managed 10 rebounds.
Jordan Bowling and
Anthony Hilliard each scored 20 points.
Preston Earle scored 17 points (all but two in the first half).
Sean Tate scored 12, Jamaine Bowling scored eight.
Dalton State led at the half, 48-46. The Roadrunners dominated the second half with the largest lead of the night, 79-64, coming on a shot by Burrey in the paint with 4:58 left in the game.
"I was really proud of the way we fought through adversity and kept our composure, especially in the first half," said Dalton State Coach Tony Ingle. "Having the lead at half-time was incredible because of the way they were hitting shots. The odds were definitely against us."
Rebounding was close with Dalton holding a slight edge (35-34). The visitors hit 26 of 34 free throws (76.5%), 29 of 60 field goals (41.67%), and 7 of 18 (38.9%) from three.
Coastal Georgia hit 66.7% (12/18) from the charity stripe. The Mariners were 27 of 54 (50%) from the field and 12 of 26 (46.2%) from three.
Michael Matta had a game-high 24 points for the hosts. Reggie Burke scored 18 points; Corey Harris, 10; and Andrew Reid, 9.
Martin Methodist (21-3, 11-2) remains on top of the SSAC standing with the Redhawk's 68-63 win over William Carey (15-7, 8-5). Dalton State stays in second. Bethel (19-5, 10-3) is just behind. The Wildcats downed Blue Mountain Saturday, 80-77.
Dalton State plays at NCAA Division III Erskine Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in Due West, SC. They return for two late week conference games at Mashburn Arena. They will host Middle Georgia College on Thursday, February 12th, at 7:30 p.m. and will entertain conference leading Martin Methodist Saturday, February 14
th, at 7:30 p.m.
