Roadrunner Basketball Wins On The Road

Marietta, GA – It was anybody's game until the end, but the #15 Dalton State Roadrunners opened their season Monday night with an exciting victory over Life University, 99-96.

"I was very proud of our team," said Dalton State Coach Tony Ingle. "That was a difficult challenge and several Roadrunners stepped up to meet the challenge."

The overtime victory over a team that beat the Roadrunners by 20 points last season was an exciting way to start the season. Dalton State was down by two at the half, 37-35.

The lead changed hands a number of times with the score tied at 82 at the end of regulation. Life raced out to a six point overtime lead before the Roadrunners came back for the three point victory.

With Preston Earle and Anthony Hilliard sitting on the bench with four fouls each, Sean Tate became the game's hero. Tate hit 34 points on the night including 24 of 26 from the foul line.

Sean was sensational in his ability to lead our team," said Ingle. "He has so much heart and his decisions tonight were amazing."

Dalton State's LaDaris Green pumped in 13 points and came down with nine rebounds. "LaDaris was amazing in helping us rebound and break the press," said Ingle.

Hilliard scored 14 points before eventually fouling out. Jermaine Barry added six points.

Chevelan Pearson and Allen Dantzler scored 17 points each for the Eagles.  Caleb Hayes added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Roadrunners had a large crowd at the game and that didn't go unnoticed. "Our fans definitely helped and it energized the players when the going got rough."

Dalton State (1-0) hosts Erskine College Tuesday night at 7:30 at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center. Morris College will visit Saturday afternoon at 4. The games will be broadcast on Mix 104.5 FM and you can catch live video on this website.
