Lady Roadrunners Fall To Mobile In Straight Sets

Box Score

Coming into their Saturday match against the University of Mobile, the Dalton State women's volleyball team knew that they had to play their absolute best to beat the powerful Lady Rams squad at Bandy Gym.  While the Lady Roadrunners got off to a fast start, they were eventually overpowered by the veteran and solid Mobile squad.  The Lady Roadrunners lost in straight sets (22-25, 15-25, 15-25).

With the loss, the Lady Roadrunners fall to 10-8 on the season and 6-5 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.  The Lady Rams solidified their number two spot in the league at 11-2 in conference play and 21-3 overall.

While no one individual was dominant for Mobile, the entire team contributed and made almost no unforced errors.  "There is a reason they are so consistent," said Lady Roadrunner head coach, Bruna Langner, "they do not make many mistakes and they do not beat themselves.  We need to get to that point as a team."

The Lady Roadrunners led 16-10 in the first set, but eventually dropped a heartbreaker at 22-25.  The Lady Rams were fairly dominant in sets two and three on their way to victory.  For the Lady Roadrunners, Alyne Bianchi, the lone senior on the team, led the way with eight kills and seven digs.  Michala Askew continued her consistent play with 23 assists and eight digs.  "We did not play that poorly, but to beat Mobile at this point, we have to be lights out," added Coach Langner.

The Lady Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday night at Bandy Gym when they host the Lady Tigers of Brenau. First serve is scheduled for 7pm EST.
