The Roadrunners Handle Allen University
Columbia, SC – The Dalton State basketball Roadrunners (19-2) jumped out to an 18 point lead at the break, 48-30, and went on to defeat Allen University (4-11) on Saturday afternoon, 95-70.
Tyrel Edwards led Roadrunner scorers with 21 points including four of six from three-point-range. He also had six rebounds.
Demetrice Jacobs had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Preston Earle had 13 points and six rebounds, and
Anthony Hilliard had 10 points and six rebounds.
LaDaris Green nearly hit the double-double again with nine points and nine rebounds.
Galen Smith scored nine points.
Ricky Sears was limited to just six points in only 13:25 of playing time.
Sean Tate scored seven points and had four assists.
Dylan Smith, Raheem Mosley, and
Nathan Terry each added two points.
"We came out with good defensive intensity and were able to take them out of their game," Dalton State coach
Tony Ingle said. "Ladaris and DJ hitting the boards was exactly what we needed to not only maintain our lead but to create a wider margin." The Roadrunners out rebounded the Jackets 53-31.
"We struggled early in the transition offense but Tyrel's hot hand really opened the game up for us and we never really looked back," said Ingle. "
Sean Tate's ability to control a game is incredible. He is truly a great leader for this team."
The Yellow Jacket's Derrick McCord scored 17 and Anthony Deangelo 15.
The Roadrunners are set to live up to their name. Six of the final nine games are away. "This (win) should help us from both a confidence and experience standpoint."
Dalton State goes to Chattanooga Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. game with Tennessee Temple. The Roadrunners then take on Reinhardt University in Waleska on Saturday, January 25, at 4:00 p.m.
The Owls of Tennessee Temple are coming off of a three game win streak.
The next home game will be against high scoring Life University on Wednesday, January 29, at 7:00 p.m.
Reinhardt Wins on Final Shot, 84-81
Quinton Woods banked in a 3-pointer off the glass with 1.6 seconds on the clock to break a tie at 81 with Virginia Intermont in Waleska Saturday night. Reinhardt's 84-81 victory upped their record to 11-8.
Virginia Intermont had rallied from 11 points down. VI's Joshua Hart scored 45 points on the night. The senior scored 35 of the Cobra's 53 secnd half points. He had scored 23 at Dalton State on Monday night.
Woods finished with 27 points for Reinhardt. The Eagles had 11 three-pointers and connected on 17 of 21 foul shots.
Life University Outscored Carver College, 110-97
The Life University Running Eagles knocked off Carver College for the second time this season. Life led by five at the half, but by as many as 20 after the break on their way to the 110-97 win.
Latraius Mosley of Life gained his eight double-double of the season with 28 pointa and 10 rebounds.
