L-R: Richard Skeel, Bart Rich, Johnny Neal, Mitchell Boggs, Jordan Neal 1/18/2014 12:27:00 PM / General First Dalton State/Optilink Baseball Clinic Is A Success 38 Boys and Girls Take Advantage of Clinic An enthusiastic group of young people were on hand Saturday at the PR0FORMANCE indoor baseball facility on Foster Road for the first ever Dalton State baseball clinic sponsored by Optilink, a division of Dalton Utilities. The 38 youngsters and many of their parents were able to take advantage of the experience of former local high school and college stars as well as major league pitcher Mitchell Boggs and college coach Richard Skeel. Richard Skeel and Mitchell Boggs Boggs is a Dalton native and resident who played college baseball at the University of Georgia. He has a World Series ring earned with the St. Louis Cardiinals. Skeel is the current Senior Associate Athletic Director for the Roadrunners. He has won over 500 college baseball games and is well known in college circles for his pitching instruction. Parents in attendance were told of things they can do to work with their kids. The two hour clinic was the first of a series of youth clinics to be held by Dalton State athletics and sponsored by Optiliink. The next clinic will be on Febuary 1, Dalton State volleyball coach Bruna Langner and players will lead a clinic for girls and boys ages 7 to 14 years of age. The volleyball clinic will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the newly renovated Bandy gymnasium on the Dalton State campus. Coach Langner is a quality coach who was an outstanding college player. Kids will have an opportunity to learn more about the game of volleyball. Like the baseball clinic, Dalton State/Optilink T-Shirts will be given to participants.
