Cougars Catch Up To Roadrunners, Then Take OT Upset, 106-102

Carver Upsets Dalton State in OT, 106-102

Atlanta, Ga. – Carver College (6-12) survived a strong first half Dalton State performance Saturday night and came back to knock-off the now 17-2 Roadrunners in overtime, 106-102.

A packed house of maybe 200 mostly Carver fans saw Dalton jump out to a 16 point half-time lead, 60-44. The Cougars chipped away at the Roadrunner lead to finally tie the game at 92 with just 5.9 seconds left in regulation. The hosts finished off their guests in overtime, outscoring DS 16 to 10.

"We probably played our greatest first half of the season," said DS coach Tony Ingle. "Scoring 60 points is incredible."

"We did not come out the first part of the second half with as much energy, intensity, and concentration," Ingle added. "We did hit some big time buckets and scrapped to the buzzer. They hit some unbelievable three pointers at opportune times."

"Our defense was solid for that type of game and offensively we had our chances to win."

The Roadrunners had five players in double figures. Demetrice Jacobs scored 20, Sean Tate 18, Preston Earle 17, Ricky Sears 15, anf Tyrel Edwards 14.

Erich Allen scored seven, Anthony Hilliard 5, and Ladaris Green was ruled eligible by the NAIA in time to see limited action and score four points. The loss snapped a 13-game win streak.

The Cougars, coached by former NBA player, Rolando Lamb, proved that their narrow four point loss at Dalton was anything but a fluke. Derrick Douglas scored 25 points for Carver (21 points from beyond the arc). Troy Swanson scored 22 and Jamil Saaka 16.

Dalton now entertains a hot Virginia Intermont team Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center.

"We must put this game behind us," Ingle said. "Virginia Intermont is coming off a win against Tennessee Wesleyan and they are carting a four game winning streak."
