Joshua Goebel was appointed as the first women’s only coach of Dalton State women’s soccer on May 7, 2025, bringing championship credentials, NAIA experience, and a proven record of player development to the Lady Roadrunners.

PATH TO DALTON STATE
Goebel’s coaching résumé features a Georgia 5A state title and a No. 1 national ranking at Chamblee High School in 2023 (21-0-1), where his program produced NCAA Division I commits to Florida State, UCLA, Clemson, and North Carolina, and included representation on the Jamaican National Team at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Goebel most recently served as Assistant Coach at Life (Ga.), helping the Running Eagles to a 13-3-1 regular season in 2024, the most regular-season wins in program history, with an NAIA national ranking as high as No. 6, 68 goals scored, 13 conceded, and 11 clean sheets. His role spanned local recruiting in metro Atlanta, opponent scouting, team tactics, technical and tactical training, in-game coaching, and management of team social media and promotion.

Before Life, Goebel was Head Girls’ Soccer Coach at Chamblee High School from 2021–2023, delivering the 2023 Georgia 5A State Championship, MaxPreps No. 1 national ranking, and elite player outcomes while leading all technical, tactical, and in-game coaching and setting program policies for play and conditioning.

In the club game, Goebel coached two premier girls’ teams at Inter Atlanta FC from 2017–2022, elevating the 2004G Premier side from bottom-three to top-three with a +38 goal-differential improvement, a berth representing Georgia in the 2021 Southern Regional Presidents Cup, and an undefeated 2022 season. He improved the 2003G Premier team’s goal differential by +29 and guided them from mid-table to league champions within two seasons.

A multi-sport coach, Goebel also served at SCAD Atlanta (2016–2018) as Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country & Track, contributing to Women’s Appalachian Athletic Conference titles in 2016 and 2018 and overseeing training design while recruiting top-tier student-athletes.

He holds a United Soccer Coaches/NSCAA National Diploma with R1 (highest rating) in all categories; Level 6 Diploma; Goalkeeper Level 1

TIME WITH THE ROADRUNNERS
At Dalton State, Goebel’s coaching approach emphasizes opponent scouting, clear tactical identity, and high-tempo, technically sound training environments, principles he refined while elevating teams at the NAIA, high school, and club levels. He prioritizes athlete development and program culture while leveraging metro-Atlanta recruiting ties and data-informed match preparation

The Roadrunners opened with a blistering non-conference start, 5–0 vs Bryan (Tenn.), 15–0 vs Florida College, and 2–0 vs Johnson (Tenn.), then claimed a 1–0 road win at Reinhardt (Ga.), behind a second-half winner from Lexi Lyon, and a 6–0 victory at Talladega (Ala.).

Conference play brought more statement wins, including 4–0 at Faulkner (Ala.) and a 10–1 home rout of ABAC (Ga.), before an 8–0 road triumph at Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.). On Senior Night, DS delivered a 4–0 win over Brewton-Parker (Ga.), then edged Thomas (Ga.)1–0 to cap a strong home stretch and the programs first 10+ win season.

The most demanding road swing of the season followed against perennial conference powers Mobile (Ala.) and William Carey (Miss.) with two close losses. The regular season finale against Life (Ga.) was extremely special for Goebel as he coached at Life the previous season.

Dalton State earned the No. 6 seed for the SSAC Championship (5–5 SSAC; 10–7–1 overall; Home 6–2; Away 4–5–1) and concluded Goebel’s first campaign in the quarterfinals with a road defeat to UT Southern (Tenn.).
