Women's XC/T&F-Dean Thompson

Dean Thompson

Dean became the 3rd Dalton State Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Coach in January of 2018. He ran cross country and track at Georgia Tech, graduating with his Bachelor’s degree in 1988.
 
Thompson lives in Cohutta, Ga. with his wife Debbie, and he has four children and 6 grandchildren.

Thompson is the oldest runner to ever win the Myrtle Beach Marathon (47 years old) and is a two-time Chattanooga Track Club Runner of the Year and former Atlanta Track Club Runner of the Year. He is part of an American record holding Indoor 4X800 Relay team.

He is the coach for a worldwide organization called Run for God and hosts a weekly podcast dealing with running and faith. It is called The Run for God Run Club Podcast. He has been in this position since 2014.
 
He has also helped lead Coahulla Creek High School to success, including many region titles in cross country and a State Championship in track and field.

His 2021-22 Lady Roadrunners won the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship for the third year in a row. For his work, Dean was named SSAC Coach of the Year, again for the 3rd time.
