Late Fairchild Goal Earns Dalton State 1-1 Draw at Thomas (Ga.)


THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Brooke Fairchild delivered an equalizer in the 86th minute as Dalton State earned a 1-1 draw against Thomas (Ga.) in SSAC action on Saturday at the TU Soccer Complex.
 
FIRST HALF
Dalton State created the match's first scoring opportunity when Alice Legnedahl forced a save from Thomas goalkeeper Chantelle Thomson in the second minute.
 
Thomas responded with sustained pressure, but Dalton State goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd kept the match scoreless by making five saves during the opening half. Rickerd denied Jordan Keene, Emily Boles twice and Pearl Mortimer as the hosts recorded eight first-half shots.
 
Dalton State generated six shots before halftime. Tania Dominguez placed the visitors' second attempt on goal in the 40th minute, but Thomson made the save to send the teams into the break tied 0-0.
 
SECOND HALF
Legnedahl tested Thomson again less than two minutes after the restart, but Thomas broke the deadlock at the 54:17 mark when Makenna Casner scored an unassisted goal.
 
Dalton State continued searching for an equalizer. Amy Wearing put an attempt on frame in the 78th minute, and Abigail Aman sent a shot high in the 81st minute.
 
The breakthrough came with 4:26 remaining. Fairchild scored at 85:34, leveling the match at 1-1. Wearing nearly produced a late winner two minutes later, but Thomson stopped her final attempt.
