Dalton State Powers Past Bryan (Tenn.), 3-1


DAYTON, Tenn. – Dalton State women's soccer scored twice in the opening half and added a second-half penalty kick to secure a 3-1 victory over Bryan on Saturday. The win moved Dalton State to 1-0-1 on the season, while Bryan fell to 0-1-0.
 
Brooke Fairchild, Alice Legnedahl and Amy Wearing each found the back of the net as Dalton State generated 27 shots and placed 14 on goal. Audrey Hunt provided the assist on Legnedahl's goal, and goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd was credited with five saves.
 
FIRST HALF
Dalton State applied pressure from the opening whistle, producing three shots on goal during the first 19 minutes. Lexi Lyon, Andrea Dominguez and Abigail Aman each tested Bryan goalkeeper Emory Andrews before the breakthrough arrived.
 
Fairchild put Dalton State ahead in the 20th minute, scoring an unassisted goal at the 19:30 mark for her first goal of the season. The Roadrunners continued to control the attacking opportunities, finishing the half with a 16-3 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corner kicks.
 
Dalton State doubled its lead just before halftime. After creating several chances in the closing minutes, Legnedahl converted with 11 seconds remaining in the period. Hunt supplied the assist on the goal, which was Legnedahl's second of the season and sent Dalton State into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
 
SECOND HALF
Bryan opened the second half with increased pressure, forcing Rickerd into saves against Carmen Verdel, Ruth Cook and Cadence Guzman. Dalton State answered with opportunities of its own, including attempts by Wearing, Ashley Estrada and Hunt.
 
The Roadrunners extended their lead in the 66th minute when Wearing converted a penalty kick at 65:57. The goal was her third of the season and gave Dalton State a 3-0 cushion.
 
Bryan pulled one back in the 77th minute when Verdel scored from the penalty spot, cutting the Dalton State lead to 3-1. Dalton State did not allow another shot on goal over the remainder of the match and closed out its second victory of the season.
