Dalton State Student-Athletes Pitch Sataria at USG Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition

4/21/2026 9:00:00 AM

DALTON, Ga. - Dalton State College was represented with excellence this week at the USG Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition, where a team of student-athletes took the stage to pitch Sataria, a women's golf apparel brand created to meet a clear and growing gap in the market.

Sataria was founded by Dalton State student-athletes Sara Burger, Tara Phipps, and Jia Kataria, who saw an opportunity where many women golfers still feel underserved: apparel that blends performance, comfort, and modern style, without the premium price tag. Their concept is built for women who want to feel confident not only while competing, but also in everyday life beyond the course.

Their timing is strong. Women's golf continues to expand nationally, now reaching more than 6 million players, a surge that reflects both increased participation and a broader shift in the sport's culture. Burger, Phipps, and Kataria recognized that as women's golf grows, so does the demand for apparel that matches the way women actually play, move, and live, versatile pieces that transition seamlessly from practice rounds to errands, class, or team travel.

At the competition, the Dalton State team delivered their pitch with impressive clarity and composure, communicating not just a product idea, but a brand identity rooted in purposeful design and real-world insight. From their market awareness to their confident presence, the team showcased the type of innovation that defines Dalton State students: practical, creative, and driven.

The group was mentored by Dr. Ray Smith, senior lecturer of management and entrepreneurship instructor, who helped guide the team through the process of refining their concept, strengthening their strategy, and preparing for a high-level competitive environment.

What stood out most was the team's professionalism. Their presentation reflected hours of thoughtful planning and a strong belief in the need Sataria addresses. More than a pitch, it was a reflection of Dalton State's culture, where students are encouraged to lead, build, and bring new ideas forward with confidence.

The work of Burger, Phipps, and Kataria reflects positively on the College and underscores the creativity, drive, and ambition of Dalton State student-athletes. Their development of Sataria shows what can be achieved when passion is paired with preparation—and serves as a reminder that some of the most impactful ideas come from those who understand the challenge from the inside.
