Lady Roadrunners Dominate Season Opener with 5–0 Shutout Over Bryan


DALTON, Ga. — Dalton State kicked off the 2025 season in commanding fashion, blanking Bryan College with a decisive 5–0 victory at home. The Lady Roadrunners showcased offensive firepower and defensive discipline from start to finish.
 
First-Half Summary
Dalton State wasted no time setting the tone. Just 47 seconds into the match, forward Lexi Lyon found the back of the net unassisted, igniting the crowd and putting Bryan on their heels. The pressure continued throughout the half, with Dalton State peppering Bryan's goal with 21 shots. At the 23-minute mark, Sophia Calkins doubled the lead off a well-placed assist from Amy Wearing. Despite a missed penalty kick and several blocked attempts, Dalton State's relentless attack kept Bryan pinned deep in their own half.
 
Second-Half Summary
The Lady Roadrunners picked up right where they left off. Lexi Lyon struck again in the 54th minute, notching her second goal of the match. Amy Wearing added her own tally in the 62nd minute, followed by a final dagger from Tania Dominguez in the 76th. The defense held firm, allowing just four total shots from Bryan and keeping goalkeeper Maggie Rickerd largely untested. The match was called early due to lightning, but the outcome was never in doubt.
