Lady Birds Stay Unbeaten With 2-0 Win Over Milligan (Tenn.)


DALTON, Ga. – After a scoreless first half, Dalton State kicked it up a gear in the second half with two goals to take down Milligan (Tenn.) 2-0 in non-conference soccer action at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Sunday.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • NO SCORING
SECOND HALF 
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Ava Vandoren found Emma Johnson for the initial goal of the afternoon when the two connected in the 51' to put the Lady Birds ahead by one goal.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Dalton State padded the lead in the 60' when Ria Cox scored with another assist from Vandoren.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) stands at (2-0-1 overall) with the victory as Milligan (Tenn.) drops to (0-3-0) with the loss. DS did a great job on defense only allowing three total shots and just one on frame. In contrast, the Lady Birds took 18 shot attempts with 13 on goal.
 
Ava Vandoren assisted on both Dalton State goals with Ria Cox and Emma Johnson getting scores. Thanks to the D, Brooke Alvarez's job was easy as she made a save on her only shot faced, recording a clean sheet in the process.
 
UP NEXT
The next match for the Lady Roadrunners will come on Tuesday, September 10 at Dalton Stadium when they host Southern Union State (Ala.). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
