Lady Roadrunners Season Comes To An End With Loss To #3 William Carey In SSAC Tournament


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Dalton State women's soccer faced a tough opponent on the road Wednesday afternoon and got a score on the board but it wasn't enough in a 6-1 defeat to #3 William Carey (Miss.) in Hattiesburg, Miss.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • (1-0 WC) WC: Karen Vilau got the Lady Saders on the board first in the 5' with an assist from Alyssia Davis.
  • (2-0 WC) WC: Carey doubled the score in the 11' with a goal from Esalenna Galekhutle on an assist from Rocio Fernandez.
SECOND HALF 
  • (3-0 WC) WC: Kokona Nishikawa and Christina Salmon connected on a goal in the 48' with Nishikawa getting the score and Salmon the helper.
  • (3-1 WC) DS: Marissa Gonzalez cut the deficit to two goals in the 62' when she received a ball from Abigail Aman and put it home.
  • (4-1 WC) WC: Salmon got a goal of her own in the 71' with help from Fernandez to re-extend the WC lead.
  • (5-1 WC) WC: Zalma Torres and Tiare Hermosilla collaborated on a goal in the 89' to increase the lead.
  • (6-1 WC) WC: Torres did damage again in the 90' with help from Lesley Vasquez.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) ends the season at (7-5-3 overall, 5-4-2 SSAC) with the loss, while #3 William Carey (Miss.) (16-1-1 overall, 10-0-1 SSAC) will advance to the semifinals of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship presented by Newk's Eatery. Marissa Gonzalez score the only Dalton State goal with an assist by Abigail Aman.
 
Brooke Alvarez saw a barrage of shots, 26 in all with 16 coming on frame. She performed up and nabbed 10 saves in 90 minutes.
 
Five Carey players scored in the match with Zalma Torres getting two. Rocio Fernandez collected two assists on the day.
 
UP NEXT
Dalton State ends its season with the loss. It is the second consecutive season the Lady Birds have finished north of .500.
