Lady Roadrunners Thrash Scotties


DECATUR, Ga. – The Lady Roadrunners scored early and late as they racked up nine goals in a 9-0 shutout win over Agnes Scott (Ga.) at Gellerstedt Field in Decatur on Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Lesley Alanis scored her first collegiate goal in the 6' when she knocked a ball home off a corner kick.
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Ava Vandoren scored her first of two goals on the day when Riley Bennett booted a cross to Vandoren who did the rest in the 14'.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Alanis sent a through pass to Emma Johnson, who found Vandoren for her second goal in the 18'.
  • (4-0 DS) DS: The Lady Birds score off their second set piece in the 32' when Briana Hurtado found Molly Duncan, who finished to the far post.
SECOND HALF
  • (5-0 DS) DS: Isabella Weigle went in unassisted in the 64' to put the Lady Roadrunners up by five goals.
  • (6-0 DS) DS: A cross bounced off a defender where Issela Briceno recovered and netted the ball in the 71'.
  • (7-0 DS) DS: Brianna Smotherman collected her first goal of the season in the 72' unassisted.
  • (8-0 DS) DS: Weigle scored her second goal as she combined with Sarah Morris for goal number eight in the 79'.
  • (9-0 DS) DS: Freshman Ivy Hyde got her first college goal in the 85' to finish out scoring for the day.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (2-1-1 overall) with the win, while Agnes Scott (Ga.) fell to (0-2 overall) on the young season. Brooke Alvarez and Mattie Dollar combined for a clean sheet, each playing a half.
 
The Lady Roadrunners outshot the Scotties 24-2 overall and 19-1 on goal. Ava Vandoren and Isabella Weigle combined for 4 of Dalton State's 9 goals on the day as they scored two each.
 
Lesley Alanis, Brianna Smotherman, Ivy Hyde, Issela Briceno, and Molly Duncan also scored, with Alanis also adding an assist to her stat line. Riley Bennett, Briana Hurtado, Sarah Morris, and Emma Johnson all assisted on goals as well.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will face a new program next as they welcome Pellissippi State (Tenn.) to Dalton on Friday, September 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
