Late Goal From Thomas (Ga.) Eliminates Dalton State From SSAC Soccer Tournament


THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Dalton State looked poised to upset the higher seeded Nighthawks of Thomas (Ga.), but two late goals dashed their hopes as Thomas (Ga.) advanced to the semifinals of the SSAC Tournament with a 2-1 win over the Lady Roadrunners on Friday afternoon in Thomasville.
 
 HOW IT HAPPENED
 FIRST HALF 
  • NO SCORING
SECOND HALF 
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Lesley Alanis got the Lady Birds on the board first in the 70' with a goal for the 1-0 lead.
  • (1-1 T) TU: Pearl Mortimer tied the match in the 73' with a double assist from Sasha Manders and Kaitlyn Herb.
  • (2-1 TU) TU: The Nighthawks spoiled the upset bid in the 87' as Herb received a ball from Ali Baca and did the rest to make the score 2-1.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) ends their season at (9-6-1 overall, 6-4 SSAC) with the loss, as Thomas (Ga.) runs their record to (11-6-1 overall, 6-3-1 SSAC) and advances to Montgomery, Ala. for the semifinals of the SSAC Tournament. Thomas outshot Dalton State 20-8 overall, but just 8-5 on frame. Brooke Alvarez stopped 6 of the 8 shots she faced.
