Lady Roadrunners Get Back To .500 With Decisive Win Over Williams Baptist


DALTON, Ga. – Dalton State bounced back in a big way after a Saturday loss to blank visiting Williams Baptist (Ark.) 3-0 in Labor Day action at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Monday morning.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Ava Van Doren connected a pretty touch pass to Vanessa Coronel who did the rest in the 40' for the 1st goal of the day.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-0 DS) DS: Brianna Hurtado lined up a free kick from a little more than 20 yards off goal and knocked it over the outstretched goalkeeper to extend the Lady Roadrunner lead to 2 goals in the 59'.
  • (3-0 DS) DS: Emma Johnson broke free for a breakaway in the 75' and found a sprinting Guadalupe Martinez on the 2v1 who netted the 3rd and final goal of the match.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (2-2 overall) with the win, while Williams Baptist (Ark.) falls to (0-4 overall) with the loss. Brianna Hurtado got her team leading 3rd goal of the season, while Guadalupe Martinez scored for a 2nd time and Vanessa Coronel collected her 1st.
 
Ava Vandoren recorded her 1st assist of the year with Emma Johnson doing the same on Martinez's goal. Brooke Alvarez and Mattie Dollar combined for a clean sheet in the win.
 
The Lady Roadrunner D was stout only allowing 1 shot all day. On offense DS fired 31 shots with 12 coming on frame.

UP NEXT
Dalton State will have a test in their next matchup when they travel to Bryan (Tenn.) to take on the Lions on Friday, September 9. Kickoff in Dayton, Tenn. is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
