Lady Roadrunners Season Ends With 3-1 Loss At Middle Georgia


COCHRAN, Ga. – A chance for a second straight upset for the Dalton State women's soccer team started in good fashion but faded late as (RV) Middle Georgia State came from behind to snag a 3-1 in win at NeSmith Field in Cochran on Friday and advance to the semifinals of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championships.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
  • (1-0 DS) DS: Brianna Hurtado got the first goal of the day for either team in the 23' when she scored from a free kick for the early lead.
  • (1-1 T) MGA: Miagh Downey tied the match just before the half in the 42'.
SECOND HALF
  • (2-1 MGA) MGA: The Knights gained their first advantage of the match in the 56' when Elle Richings found Tatjana Steinau for the go-ahead goal.
  • (3-1 MGA) MGA: Middle Georgia put the match out of reach in the 83' when Downey connected with Hannah Theriault, finding the net and a two-goal lead.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (5-6-4 overall, 3-3-2 SSAC) with the loss to end their season, while (RV) Middle Georgia State improves to (10-6-2 overall, 5-2-1 SSAC) with the win and advances to play #2-seed Life (Ga.) in Montgomery, Ala. on November 9. Brianna Hurtado scored the only goal of the evening for Dalton State and ended the season with the team lead at 6. Brooke Alvarez had 4 saves in goal and netted 70 saves on the year.

UP NEXT
The loss concludes the season for the Lady Roadrunners. They will be back in the Fall of 2023 in pursuit of their 1st SSAC Championship.
