Lady Birds Come Up Short Against #6 Cumberlands (Ky.)


WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lady Roadrunners had #6 Cumberlands (Ky.) on the ropes for a half but the Patriots pulled away in the second period for a 2-0 defeat of Dalton State at UC Soccer Complex in Williamsburg, Ky. on Saturday.

SECOND HALF
  • (1-0 UC) UC: Jayden Boelter quickly got the Patriots on the board in the 48' after a scoreless first half with Laura Navajas Marin and Alanna Skinner getting an assist.
  • (2-0 UC) UC: Boelter got her second goal of the night in the 62' with an assist from Jillian Zurborg and Madison Mirandilla.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to 4-5 overall with the loss, while #6 Cumberlands (Ky.) improves to 6-0 overall with the win. The Lady Birds were strong on defense holding the Patriots scoreless for the first half and to just two goals overall.
 
Brooke Alvarez stopped four of the six shots she faced as the Patriots outshot the Lady Roadrunners 11-5. Molly Duncan and Ava Van Doren tied for the most shots with two each. One of Van Doren's came on frame.

Dalton State will have a long break to recover before traveling to open conference play against Mobile (Ala.). Kickoff on Thursday, September 30 against the Lady Rams is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (CT)
