Lady Birds Drop 3-1 Decision To Bryan

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Lady Roadrunners had a halftime tie slip away as the Lions of Bryan (Tenn.) scored two second half goals to defeat Dalton State 3-1 in non-conference action at BC Soccer Field in Athens, Tenn. on Tuesday.

THE FIRST HALF
Bryan went out on the attack first after a back-and-forth start. Mattie Dollar collected a save off the boot of Makena Giles in the 4', but Giles quickly got another shot in the 5' and this time beat Dollar to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Birds went on the attack next and controlled the pace for the rest of the half. First, Andrea Soto Calderon's shot went wide in the 9' and was quickly rebounded by Sarah Chamale who got a knock in only to be denied by Caragan Treola.

Three-straight corner kicks followed that missed their mark as the score remained 1-0. Still, the Lady Roadrunners kept pressing. The tenacity paid off as Keyle Snyder connected with Chamale for the equalizer in the 22' to make the score 1-1.

The pace of the match slowed as the half wound down as the teams went into the break with the score tied at 1-1.

THE SECOND HALF
Dalton State came out of the half with high intensity and looked to take the lead. Chamale got the first crack on Treola in the 47', but Treola made the save. Chamale was followed by Alyssa Bilbrey in the 54', only to suffer the same fate.

The Lions began to mount an attack after the Bilbrey miss as Anna Sanders took on Dollar looking for the go-ahead goal. Dollar saved the shot, but she would not be so lucky on the next shot as Giles racked up her second goal of the night for the 2-1 lead.

A defensive stalemate ensued next with the temperatures hot and both squads feeling drained. It would not be until the 74' when the Lady Roadrunners got back on the attack. Snyder received the ball and attempted to tie the match, but Treola once again snatched up the save.

BC again turned defense into offense and flipped the field. Giles completed the hat trick in the 75' when she beat Dollar to extend the lead to 3-1.

With time ticking away, Dalton State tried to get back into the match. Andrea Lopez had a shot go off the post in the 84' as did Adrianna Arjoon in the 88'. Arjoon's shot was rebounded by Caylee Carpenter who booted it toward the net. Treola again was solid and made the save to end the threat and bring an end to the match as the Lions defeated the Lady Roadrunners, 3-1.

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to (0-2 overall) with the loss, while Bryan (Tenn.) improves to (1-2 overall) with the win. Senior Sarah Chamale led the Lady Roadrunners with one goal and three shots on goal. Keyle Snyder collected the assist on the Chamale goal and added a shot on goal as well. Alyssa Bilbrey, Adrianna Arjoon, and Caylee Carpenter each contributed with shots on goal. Mattie Dollar added three saves in net.

Makena Giles recorded a hat trick, scoring all three Bryan goals on four shots on goal. Maggie Waldroup and Allie Amado recorded assists on two of the three Giles goals while the other went unassisted. Caragan Treola allowed one goal and added six saves on the evening.

The Lady Roadrunners led the way in shots (10-9), shots on goal (7-6), and corner kicks (8-6), but only managed the single goal against the stingy Treola.
