#4 Roadrunners Win Fifth Straight SSAC Championship

GREENVILLE, Ala. – #4 Dalton State polished off their fifth straight SSAC Championship on Wednesday firing a (-1, 287) to take the victory at Robert Trent Jones at Cambrian Ridge in Greenville, Ala. The Roadrunners posted a three-day total of (-4, 860), 10 strokes better than runner-up #11 William Carey (Miss.)

The Crusaders had a team total of (+6, 870) to take second followed by Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (+25, 889) in third. In fourth was (RV) Mobile (Ala.) (+29, 893), with #23 Loyola (La.) (+31, 895) rounding out the top-5.

RECAP
A trio of Roadrunners fired (-2, 70) on the day led by individual medalist and SSAC Player of the Year Ben Rebne. Rebne had five birdies, a double-bogey, and a bogey on his round, cruising to a two shot victory over Noah Martino of Mobile (Ala.). With the win, Rebne becomes the fifth consecutive Roadrunner to win the SSAC Individual Medalist title joining Sean Elliott in 2015, Chase Jones in 2016, and S.M. Lee in 2017 & 2018.

Sophomore Matthew Cleary and freshman Zach Womack were the other two Birds to fire a 2-under, 70, with Cleary coming home seventh and Womack in a tie for 10^th. Cleary made the turn at 2-under with birdies at Nos. 6 & 9. He pushed to 4-under after birdies at Nos. 10 & 13. He encountered trouble at Nos. 14 & 16 with a double-bogey and bogey respectively, but finished in style with a pitch in for birdie at No. 18 from a greenside bunker.

Womack had a solid round that featured four birdies and two bogeys. An opening birdie on No. 1 got things rolling, but bogeys at Nos. 3 & 5 shot him down to 1-over. He came back with a birdie at No. 9 to make the turn at even-par. His round only improved from there with birdies at Nos. 10 & 17 to finish out his tournament with a top-10.

Sport Allmond struggled during his final round shooting (+5, 77), but did enough work the first two days to bring home a fifth place finish and a spot on the all-tournament team. A double-bogey, bogey, bogey start had Allmond at 4-over after his first three holes. He buckled down from there and ended his tournament by going 1-over on his final 15 holes, including an eagle on No. 16.

Junior Eli Hendricks finished 21^st overall after a round of (+6, 78). Hendricks once again got off to a good start as he routinely did on the front 9 this week going to the back 9 at even-par. Coming in, he once again encountered problems with four bogeys, two double-bogeys, and two birdies.

UP NEXT
The #4-ranked Roadrunners earn the Southern States Athletic Conference's automatic bid for the NAIA National Championship and will compete again on May 21-24 at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
