Lady Roadrunners Come Up Short Against #2 William Carey


HATTIESBURG, Miss. – #2-ranked William Carey (Miss.) handed Dalton State their second straight loss with a 3-1 defeat of the Lady Roadrunners at Crusader Field in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (WC 1-0): The Lady Saders put the first score on the board in the 62' when Itzayanna Garcia beat Mattie Dollar with an assist from Rebeca Delgado.
  • (WC 2-0): 12 minutes later Garcia found Veronica Herrera to put Carey up by two goals at 2-0.
  • (DS 2-1): The Lady Roadrunners cut into the lead in the 81' on a connection between Adrianna Arjoon and Alyssa Bilbrey that netted Arjoon her third goal of the season.
  • (WC 3-1): Showing their might, Carey answered back 30 seconds later to put the game away with Adrijane Felix and Leticia Cupilille combining for a goal.
 
THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State (Ga.) falls to (6-7 overall, 2-3 SSAC) with the loss, while #2 William Carey (Miss.) improves to (15-1 overall, 7-0 SSAC) with the win. The Lady Roadrunners played tough on defense after a physical match two nights before with Mobile (Ala.), holding the #2 Lady Saders scoreless in the first half. Mattie Dollar collected five tough saves.
