Shorter Hands Dalton State First Loss Of The Season

DALTON, Ga. - After a two day delay and a change in locations Dalton State and Shorter finally hit the pitch on Wednesday, but it was the Hawks who came out on top 2-1 at Lakeshore Soccer Complex in Dalton.

THE FIRST HALF
The scoring would start early as Shorter would get on the board in the 3' with a goal off the boot of Fanny Garanger with an assist from Erica Hiller. Hiller would pick up her second assist of the night in the 15' when she sent a pass ahead to Kelly Vernon who did the rest, beating Dalton State goalkeeper Sydnee Newton for a 2-0 lead.

Dalton State would cut the deficit in half right before the break when a handball in the box sent Adrianna Arjoon to the goal-kick spot. Arjoon would convert to cut the lead to 2-1 going into halftime.

THE SECOND HALF
The Lady Roadrunners would control possession for much of the second half. They would get a few good looks, but could not convert. Their best shot would come with 5:39 remaining when Andrea Soto Calderon got loose behind the defense, but her shot would be stopped by Sydney Durham. Time would run short on Dalton State as they would take their first loss of the season, 2-1/

THE REST OF THE STORY
Dalton State falls to 4-1 overall on the season, while Shorter improves to 1-3 overall. Adrianna Arjoon picked up her third goal of the season in the 44'. The Dalton State defense was tough in the second half, but the offense struggled to convert opportunities. Shorter out-shot Dalton State 6-5 overall and 5-4 on goal.
