Dalton State Volleyball Wins a Nail Biter

The Dalton State Lady Roadrunners played what Coach Bruna Langner called their best match of the season Friday night in a 3-2 win over Martin Methodist at Mack Gaston Community Center.

"We were down, but we fought hard," Langner said. "We got to see everyone on the team play tonight and we needed every single girl."

Martin Methodist (3-16) pulled away from a 17-all tie in the first set to take a 25-21 victory.  Dalton State dominated the second game 25-13.

Langner said an earlier Dalton State win on the Martin Methodist home court gave the visitors added incentive to play hard. "We started a little slow in the first game," she said. "But we picked it up in the second game."

Game three was tied at 23, but the visiting Lady Redhawks scored the final two points for a 25-23 win, Dalton had trailed by six early (4-10), but came back to tie it at 13. It was neck and neck the rest of the game.

The Lady Roadrunners jumped out to a 20-11 lead in game four and never trailed, but the visitors did manage several ties. DS held on to a 25-22 victory.

A "first to 15" tie-breaker was close all the way with several lead changes. Dalton got to 15 first, but couldn't avoid the needed two point margin. Tied at 15, the Lady Roadrunners managed to score the final two points for the 17-15 win and the set victory, 3-2.

Dalton's Michaela Askew had 24 assists, 3 kills, and 14 digs. Clarissa Weber had 7 assists. Tori Pierce had 21 digs. Alyne Bianchi had 15 kills and 20 digs. Savannah Nelson had 14 kills, Cassie Cochran 6 kills, and Karly Newman had 5 kills and 20 digs.  Anna Dykes had 3 kills.
