Draghiceanu Will Continue Tennis Career Here
Dalton State Tennis Coaches Michel Bates and Zach Rogers have signed a highly regarded senior at Woodstock High School in Canton to this fall's team.
David Draghiceanu has been playing in USTA tournaments since age nine and has consistently maintained a top 20 ranking in the highly competitive state of Georgia. He is also a top 100 player in the Southern section.
The newest Roadrunner was named the 2012 Co-Player of the Year as the
Cherokee Ledger-News. He shared that honor with his doubles teammate, Josh Bertram. Draghiceanu and Bertram had been among Woodstock's top singles players during previous seasons.
Tennis is on a tremendous upswing in Cherokee County and Wolverine Coach Ashley Potz had the luxury of being able to move the two athletes into doubles competition. The move paid off. The new singles players blossomed and her new doubles competitors dominated the region.
"I look forward to watching David's career flourish over the next four years here at Dalton State," Bates says. "I feel certain he will make a great contribution right off the bat." Rogers echoed the sentiment. "David is an extremely talented young man who will bring a lot of energy to the team," he said.
Draghiceanu says he is looking forward to joining his new teammates in building a highly competitive tennis program in the new DS athletic department. David is the son of Amy and George Draghiceanu. He has one brother, Nick, 21.
